portrayed in the novel and how rumors really are now is a question to be asked.

The truth is, these days rumors have become more of a weapon we use against each other rather than a simple form of entertainment. The truth behind rumors has been inflated to something deep down inside we all know is not true. Back then, they were harmless gossip between women and men which usually consisted of the latest gossip on the town outcast or even former residents, such as how Ms. Stephanie tells Scout and her brother about Mr. and Mrs. Radley.

To them, people who were outside the norm peaked their interest as they still do today. As fast as the rumors spread then, they spread even faster today with the abundance of technology we have whereas back then, it was spread through whatever human contact they had- writing, gatherings, etc. Are rumors today just as they were back then? No. And they will continue to evolve as time goes on.
