TEAM FOR CURES : 5K WALK / RUN
In 2017 , over 15,000 members of our myeloma community shared knowledge , camaraderie and hope . Nearly $ 3.4 million was raised to support the MMRF ’ s urgent mission .
TRI-STATE
On June 11 over 1,300 participants gathered to support the MMRF on a sunny morning . Over $ 425,000 was raised , and Honorary Race Chairs Kathy and Paul Giusti spoke . Suzie Binch received the Spirit of Hope Award , and she spoke about perseverance in the light of obstacles , which comes with the realization that we are all far stronger than we think . The top fundraising team was Team Better Days , captained by Vicki Birdoff and her family . The largest team was Let Me Run Fairfield County . The Caregiver Award went to Lauren Hubbert .
CHICAGO
Over 1,600 patients and supporters gathered and raised over $ 580,000 on a beautiful and spirited September morning . The MMRF was thrilled to honor Nelson and Louisa Levy with the Spirit of Hope Award . Nelson spoke about the need for more funding in myeloma . The largest team was Team Tonya , captained by Tonya and Dan Hillenbrand . The top team was also Team Tonya , along with Weezie ’ s Winners , captained by Louisa and Nelson Levy . Michael Rosengarden received the Caregiver Award . Thank you to Andrzej Jakubowiak , MD for speaking and serving as our Honorary Race Chair .
TWIN CITIES
On September 24 , close to 1,000 patients and supporters congregated to support the MMRF . Over $ 230,000 was raised , and knowledge and connections were shared by all . Team Sher ’ s Fab Fighters received the Spirit of Hope award , with Team Captain Ashley Hafdal and her mother Sheridan Hafdal making heartfelt remarks . The largest team was Wathal Walkers / Rebel Nurse Runners . The top fundraising team was Team Sher ’ s Fab Fighters . Anne Snyder received the Caregiver Award . Thank you to Kimberly Young , RN , of the Mayo Clinic , for speaking and serving as our Honorary Race Chair .
