patience and sheer commitment of teachers comes in crucial in helping them
see through the various academic, character and simple daily support for
each child (and their parents) in their class. Compared to classes in
mainstream schools, a higher proportion of the students require much
partnership and collaboration with parents to help their child learn - this
calls on time, effort and conviction in believing in education and helping each
child progress, for energy to sustain such partnerships.
3.2 KidZania Indoor Theme Park
Our attachment at KidZania widened our knowledge about how an industry
operates and the challenges they face on a daily basis. We also made
comparisons to our organisations and discussed how we can improve the
way we functioned back at school. Through this report, we have explained
the various aspects of KidZania and how they operate as an organisation. As
a team, we felt that culture building is the foundation of an effective school
system and we were impressed with the culture of KidZania and how it
shaped the organisation and motivated their staff. This was surely an ‘aha’
moment for us.
The culture of KidZania was very clear to us from the very first hour of our
attachment as we could see that the management and the staff behaved in a
certain manner. They started the day on a Monday with the KidZanian
National Anthem where all staff were involved in the singing of the anthem.
We could feel the pride the staff of KidZania had for the organisation. From
their unique way of greeting with a ‘kai’ and ‘Z u’, any visitor would be a little
confused about what was going on. This unique feature allowed the staff to
be confident and be proud of what they were doing as they needed to explain
to us what all this meant. It seemed that it resonated with them so well and
gave them a sense of satisfaction and commitment to what they were doing.
Apart from this, there are many st aff appreciation platforms in place to allow
the staff to appreciate one another and for the management to appreciate
their staff. This shows the commitment of the organisation to make sure that
the well-being of staff is of priority and the effort the organisation puts in to
make it possible is commendable.
