MIXMAG 2014
Brad Pitt as Heinrich Harrer in “Seven Years in Tibet” (1997)
Soaring through the clouds one moment,
sipping cocktails with reclusive billionaires
the next. Nobody distills adventure and
glamour better than the celebrated aviator,
brought back to life by Hilary Swank. Look
the part in this A.P.C. jumpsuit (€385) and
Fendi silk scarf (£90). Marni’s two-toned
sandals (£665), with their juxtaposition of
leather and metal, echo a classic 1930s
plane, while the four-studded gold and
silver bracelet from Chloé (£885) is as bold
and brassy as Amelia herself. Top off the
look with aviator shades from The Row
by Linda Farrow (€320) and you won’t be
mistaken for a passenger.

Sigourney Weaver as Dian Fossey in “Gorillas in the Mist” (1988)
The tale of how Austrian climber Heinrich
Harrer found Buddhist redemption after a
Nazi past may be laced with schmaltz, but
breathtaking shots of the Himalayas and
Brad Pitt at his 1990s floppy-haired finest
make this film easy on the eye. Reprising
the rugged jauntiness that Mr. Pitt brought
to his portrayal of Harrer is, however, less of
a stretch than the script.
Pairing a rough cotton cardigan (Bark,
£180) with a soft jacket (Hugo Boss, £300)
gives a smart edge to an outdoor look.
Finish off the look with a pair of charcoal
Levi’s (£85) and Paul Smith boots (£290).
Even if the only scaling you’re doing is taking
the stairs, no self-respecting mountaineer,
urban or otherwise, can do without a canvas
bag. This knapsack by Ally Capellino (£179)
holds its own, as well as your belongings.
