For the first time in league history, the Valley sends six
women’s basketball teams to the postseason. Evansville
and Missouri State represented the league in the NCAAs,
while Drake advanced to the Final Four of the WNIT. Jackie
Stiles of Missouri State earned league Most Valuable Player
honors, becoming the first sophomore in Valley history to
capture that award. Evansville’s Kathi Bennett, who guided
UE from ‘worst to first,’ took home Rawlings MVC Coach of
the Year honors.

in the preseason poll. Led by Player of the Year Christy
Neneman and Rawlings Coach of the Year Connie Yori, the
Bluejays won the regular-season and tournament titles and
represented the league in the NCAA Tournament. Drake
received an at-large NCAA bid and advanced to the Sweet
16 with wins against Syracuse and second-seeded Baylor.
Missouri State also qualified for postseason play, as the Lady
Bears hosted Eastern Kentucky in the WNIT.

Creighton’s 13-5 MVC record earned it a share of the regular
season title for the second consecutive season. It marked the
first time the Jays have won back-to-back titles in the MVC,
plus Christy Neneman earned Player of the Year honors for
the second time. During the previous five seasons, the MVC
had earned two spots in the NCAA Tournament, but after
Missouri State, the No.4 tournament seed, won the conference championship and the league's NCAA automatic berth,
three other Valley teams enjoyed postseason in the WNIT.
Indiana State, UNI and Creighton participated in the WNIT,
with the Jays advancing to the field of four before falling to
Auburn, 73-62. Indiana State's Jim Wiedie was voted the
Rawlings Coach of the Year.

For the third-straight year, the Valley has three teams in
postseason play, as Drake, UNI and Missouri State represent
the conference. Highlighted by national Player of the Year honors by All-American and league MVP Jackie Stiles, Missouri
State reaches the Final Four for the second time in school
history, falling to Purdue in the national semifinals. Stiles
became the all-time NCAA women’s basketball career scoring
leader (3,393 points) and also set the NCAA single-season
scoring record (1,062 points). First-year coach Lisa Stone
of Drake earns the Rawlings MVC Coach of the Year award.

Once again, the Valley sent its top three teams to postseason
play, as Missouri State, Drake and Creighton represented
the conference. Missouri State collected its second-straight
Valley Tournament title and staged a dramatic duel at Notre
Dame. Missouri State lost by four points in OT to the Irish
after recovering from a 16-point deficit.Creighton made
an early exit from the league championship as UNI upset
the Jays in the opening round, but an invite to the WNIT,
reignited Jim Flanery's team. Creighton drove through the
32-team bracket and earned the MVC's first national title
in women's basketball.
137
