35 This trend has arisen from the need to express ourselves and celebrate our heritage. It has further metamorphosed as an avenue for expressing political statements and a host of other unconventional purposes. But noteworthy is the move made during the just concluded Lagos@50 celebration, graffiti artists such as Osa Okunkpolor and Polly Alakija were commissioned to beautify several public spaces in Lagos. The results were simply breathtaking! The embrace of graffiti in Africa especially has been rather fast, from the shores of Cape Town to the pyramids of Egypt, this movement is hard to ignore.
