• 37 % of EFSC ’ s 3,900 dual enrollment students are minorities .
• 40 % of the College ’ s First Time in College students are minorities .
• Pell students accounted for more than 50 % of EFSC graduates in five of the past six years .

Benefits of MMI to Participating Students

• Guidance from minority faculty members who are dedicated to the success of minority male students . Participating faculty will mentor students , guiding them through the sometimes overwhelming challenges of academic success .
• A mutual support system with minority male peers .
• A dedicated digital space for information and communication . MyMMI , a Canvas tool , will provide information pertaining to College resources on each campus , including financial aid , academic support , life skills training , internships and others . Users also can digitally chat with fellow cohort members and faculty mentors .
• Discussion forums and campus events on topics of interest to minority males .
• Potential to participate in off-campus events focusing on issues related to minority men in college . An example is the Black , Brown , College Bound conference each spring in Tampa . We will also attend to the needs of men of color , hold interactive workshops and support each other ’ s progress to meet their institution ’ s goals for academic success . https :// www . hccfl . edu / bbcb . aspx
• Access to a repository of research and articles pertaining to minority males and college success , as well as links to publications that can advance student education .
• Scholarship and financial help information from private , state , federal and EFSC Foundation sources . Also , FASFA information and links to off campus financial assistance , including potential job opportunities .
Requirements for Participants
• Register in at least one ( 1 ) course at any of the Eastern Florida State College campuses .
• Participate in a cohort engaged in the MMI mission .
• Have regular meetings with an assigned Minority Male Initiative Advisor .
• Possibly serve as a Mentor in your sophomore year .
• Attend at least two ( 2 ) Academic Workshops per semester , with at least one being a Minority Male Initiative Session .
