Separated Entity “Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant” of the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom” belongs to the most powerful enterprises
of the Khmelnytskyi region.
Power units 1 and 2 operate at the site of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant.
The full design capacity of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant is 4000 MW.
On December 22, 1987, power unit 1 with reactor WWER-1000 with the nominal
capacity of 1000 MW was commissioned.
On August 7, 2004, power unit 2 with reactor WWER-1000 was connected to the
united energy system of Ukraine.
The Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant generates about 15 billion kilowatt hours
of electricity annually. Two units of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant produce
48 million kilowatt-hours of electricity daily, which accounts for 8% of the total electricity production in Ukraine.
The highest priority of the production of electric and thermal energy is nuclear and
radiation safety, reliable and stable operation of the units. The units of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant meet current global requirements by their technical
parameters and the level of security.
The scheme of the industrial site provides for a compact location of all the main technological units, and safe implementation of measures for environmental protection.
The site of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant is most promising for expanding the facilities of the Ukrainian atomic power engineering. Due to changes in the
design of units 3 and 4, feasibility study for building power units is subject to revision in general. It is planned to review the Nuclear Power Plant impact on the environment in line with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). To date, PJSC
“Kyyivenerhoproekt” is amending feasibility study in connection with using reactor
WWER-1000 “SKODA JS” in the new project for the construction of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant units 3,4 with the implementation of all measures to improve safety. An approval of the amended feasibility study will allow the Cabinet of
Ministers of Ukraine to take the final decision and adopt new legislation on location,
design and construction of the third and fourth units of SS Khmelnytskyi Nuclear
Power Plant.
