The Church of Pampulha is registered by the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN), the State Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage of Minas Gerais (IEPHA / MG) and the Municipal Heritage Management.
Designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer, it was considered a great architectural innovation. Its interior houses the Via-Sacra, composed by fourteen panels of Candido Portinari. The gardens are signed by Burle Marx and the bronze bas-reliefs were carved by Alfredo Ceschiatti.
Besides being one of the most representative images of the religiosity of the people of Minas Gerais, Igrejinha da Pampulha is also one of the best known "postcards" of Belo Horizonte, a masterpiece of the Architectural Complex of Pampulha,
which recently received the title of Cultural Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO.
