way. September Mindset Self-Defense opens the doors of discussion to topics such
as safety protocols to expect from colleges, what students can do to help
themsleves, and new twists one may encounter when studying abroad.
Also found in this issue are tips and insights into actually taking the ?rst steps to
getting ourselves and loved ones to begin a self-defense class. Jill Roth, our
resident Black Belt powerhouse of all things will discuss the most dif?cult part of
starting a self-defense class, making the decision and walking through the
classroom door! Our newest contributor, Dianne Bailey, (also a 4th degree Tae
Kwon Do Black Belt), hosts our new column, "Ask The Trainer”. Here Dianne will
take your questions and offer valuable information on the importance of ?tness in
self-defense training and in general well-being.
Our focus at Mindset is to empower women to empower themselves, to stay safe
and defend their boundaries in all situations. It is our hope that you, as well as the
young people you know who are just starting out on their own life path, will
recognize the importance of this theme. We hope that parents will forge through the
dif?cult topics that self-defense may stir up, and pave the way for their young adults
to accept the idea that they are the greatest gifts of all, worth defending, and that selfdefense is a concept that must be learned. As school commences this September, let's
keep in mind that there are some lessons better learned through instruction, and not
through experience. Personal safety is one of them.
