SOME QUICK TIPS BEFORE YOU START...
Here are some quick tips to learn as your getting started. We don't want to put
out crap so learn this stuff quick.
1. Breathing is probably the most important part of voice overs. Take a deep
breath and learn how to control your breathing so you don't sound "winded"
2. You must keep a steady tone to your voice. This means don't raise your voice
up and down during the reading of the script, unless it calls for it. It makes it
impossible for the audio to sound professional when your voice is all over.
3. Use "inflections" when needed. come'on you know how to do inflecitons.
Just watch the same stuff you did as a kid, cartoons. See the inflections?
4. Be in a comfortable position when recording audio. Some people prefer
standing and some like sitting. Standing opens up the diaphram more though.
5. Practice, start now! Grab a book and start reading out loud. Start to listen
to commercials now instead of avoiding them.
6. You need quality equipment. Online audio equipment is fine, but you need
a quality microphone. Don't record with noises in the backround like fans,
dogs, birds, creaking doors, or other backround noises you never even noticed
before. A quality mic picks up everything.
7. Don't record when your tired. It"shows" on the audio. Remember to clear
your throat also! And for God's sake, don't chew gum or eat. Duh.
