AT A GLANCE • MOST ENTREES $15-$20 • BYO • OPEN 7 DAYS • FAMILY FRIENDLY • HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE • TAKE OUT ROCK N ROLL FIRE WOK DELIGHT I chose the Miso Black Cod, served atop fresh sautéed vegetables (all entrees come with white rice.) Two filets, broiled until lightly golden and the skin a bit crisp, were glazed with Saikyo miso sauce, a slightly sweet blend of miso, mirin and sake. It was easily the best dish of the evening, each bite melting delicately on my tongue. I can’t stop talking about it. Service could use some polishing, as well as the timing of each course. We had just started our appetizer when the Special Rolls arrived. Then the waitress brought our hot entrees before the first dishes were cleared, leaving us awkwardly pushing the empty dishes aside — and they remained on the table until we were done. For dessert, we shared Green Tea Tempura Ice Cream. Thin slices of pound cake cloak a scoop of ice cream, which is then dipped in a tempura batter, quickly fried, and served with whipped cream. Each bite was cool, creamy and crispy. Dozo is BYO but serves imported soft drinks. A can of Calpico soft drink was lightly effervescent and refreshing; a glass bottle of Ramune lychee soda was a bit sweeter. I watched the waitress open it by pushing on a tab, which released a glass marble held against the opening by carbon- ation. Once opened, the marble bobbed around in the bubbling soda, easily entertaining my inner child. ■ DOZO ROLL ROCK SHRIMP TEMPURA GREEN TEA TEMPURA ICE CREAM MILLBURN & SHORT HILLS MAGAZINE FALL 2018 47
