Saeed also removed a wall that sepa-
rated the dining room and the living
room. She installed recessed lighting
to add brightness, and red oak floors
throughout to replace the preexisting
carpeting. “My house has the same red
oak floors, stained walnut,” she says.
In her neighbors’ home, she went for
a “loft feel” by merely sanding and
coating the wood without staining
it. The white walls add to the light,
unadorned ambiance. (At right) A view
