unification of the Koreans. It provides little enlightenment to the more astute and informed reader on

DUCATING AMERICA’S MILITARY is essential reading for anyone, especially policymakers, involved in the professional military education
(PME) arena. Dr. Joan Johnson-Freese provides
a series of well-written, soundly researched, and
even-handed arguments in a readable essay form.
Her book is a profound description of what’s right
and what’s wrong in PME complete with the gray
areas of continuing debate. I found myself scribbling notes on virtually every page, many with
exclamation marks or asterisks where I too had
experienced similar debates and conclusions in
my combined ten years as an academic at the U.S.
Army War College, Command and General Staff
College, and Logistics University. Yet, instead of
enjoying what would have been my confirmation
