ARTICLES Leadership in our Society 18 Leadership Functions Of A Good Leadership The term “leadership” is a complex one and over the years it has captured the attention of individuals, organizations, re- searchers as well as political leaders. Leadership is defined as the process of organizing a group of people to achieve a common goal. In other words, it is a force that initiates ac- tion among people to guide, direct, maintain and unify the effort towards a common goal. Unfortunately a shortage of the characters and qualities needed to become a great leader in our present society has been a great concern. Put- ting the right leadership in place is the foundation of mov- ing our set objectives to a level that will be beneficial to all. Poor leadership at all levels in our country is responsible for our current infrastructural decay and poor economy. Prioritize the needs for the task at hand, focus on team and individuals that make up the team For leadership to be impactful, there are certain qualities a leader should possess in order to transform the society or organization to enviable heights. There is no organiza- tion that can survive without quality leadership; as a mat- ter of fact the quality of the leadership in an organization will ultimately determine the survival of that organization. This write-up seeks to outline some effective leadership styles and also highlight those that are demonstrated in MIDWESTERN OIL AND GAS. Focus on actions; here focus is more on what the leader does than on who the leader is Flexibility; it doesn’t matter who does what, what matters is whether the task gets done. Therefore, the leadership role itself is quite flexible Understanding individual responsibility is of vital impor- tance, each member of a team should know exactly how he or she contributes to the group to achieve its goals.
