Midreshet Tehillah Alumnae Newsletter Summer 2014 - Page 3 I wanted to share a few words of Torah with you that will help put some perspective on the time we merited to spend together in Jerusalem. When Bnei Yisrael were asked if they wanted the Torah they accepted saying, “We will do it and we will learn about it—naaseh and nishma.” Each person received two crowns for this declaration. But these were not crowns of gold; they were crowns of light that illuminated the world around each individual. These crowns anticipated the crowns we will wear in the next world when we will dance around Hashem with a crown on our heads and point to G-d in great joy from the beauty of His presence. The Rambam explains that just as a physical light is needed to enable a person to see physical things, a spiritual light is needed to see spiritual things. Each time a person does a mitzvah he creates this spiritual light and it is that light that will crown us in the next world, enabling us to see Hashem in joy. We received two crowns when we said naaseh v’nishma because there are two kinds of spiritual light. “We will do” gave Bnei Yisrael a light through which they could see G-d in the physical world around them. “We will learn” gave them a light by which to see the deepsouled nature of every Jew. When we learned together at Midreshet Tehillah we tried to develop these crowns of light for ourselves, to gain spiritual sensitivities to see G-d’s presence in our lives and to appreciate the depth of the people around us. I hope that this joy remains with you, enhancing both the spiritual depth of your world and the quality of your relationships with others. Remember- each time you learn Torah or put your heart into doing a mitzvah, you brighten your crown of light adding so much spiritual insight to your lives. Keep in touch with us until we merit to learn together once again. All the best, Rabbi Brussel [email protected] t?
