THE MILITARY REFORMS OF MUHAMMAD ALI: THE FUNDAMENTS
OF BUILDING A NEW ARMY
The article is about the military reforms of Muhammad Ali in Egypt
during the first half of the 19th century. The main goal of the reforms was to
ensure the safety and relative independence of the country. Despite the
difficulties of adapting a new military system, the reform succeeded and also
became a fundament for a radically new military system based on the
European model. The article also discusses in detail the motives of the
military reform initiated by Muhammad Ali and his actions to solve the
problems arose during the realization process.
