Vintage Emporium adds a second location
By GARY M. AYD
Five years ago, partners Matt Smith
and Anthony Vesnaver, formerly of New
York City took a chance on an old building
on Route 9W. Fast forward to today, and
that chance has paid off as the tandem
prepares to expand via a new location on
their original vision.
The Newburgh Vintage Emporium,
the vision of Smith and Vesnaver, will
be adding a second location. The new
spot, the Newburgh Vintage Emporium
Ware-House will be a 30,000 square foot
warehouse located at 10 Route 17K, the
former home of Warehouse Furniture.
“We saw this as the perfect opportunity,”
Smith said when speaking of the overall
launch and concept. “We aimed to bring
a more modern approach to antiquing.”
The approach has worked. The pair
have a waiting list of vendors looking to
sell at their store. It was made clear that
the business model at the current location
is not a consignment model, but rather
one where vendors rent space inside the
store and sell their respective goods.
The new location, which they hope to
have opened by October, will hold an
estimated 80-vendors and will focus on
goods from the 1970s and earlier. Some

residents may recall the building
as “Avalon Roller Drome,” or
“Big Scott.”
While the new location will have
some unique features compared
to the established store on 9W,
such as consignment services, the
current offerings and selection
of the original location offers a
good feel for the selection and
feel Smith and Vesnaver have
cultivated.
“We want people to be able to
buy and touch and interact with
the products,” Smith said. “This
isn’t a museum and we want
people to be able to afford things.”
