Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney
has announced two, new bills to improve
and expand testing and research related
to PFOS contamination of drinking water.
“Working with Senator Gillibrand,
I’m introducing a piece of legislation
that would require the EPA to test all
communities for PFOA and PFOS in their
drinking water,” Maloney said standing

The lake is being treated by a portable,
granular activated-carbon filtration
system to remove perfluorooctanesulfonic
acid (PFOS) found at levels above the
Environmental Protection Agency’s
health advisory level in March.
Testing revealed the nearby Stewart
Air National Guard Base was the source
of PFOS contamination of the lake
reservoir and the city’s drinking water.
Maloney and other government officials
have since called for free blood tests for
local residents.
Last month, the New York State
Department of Health announced
it would carry out a biological testing
program in wake of the contamination.

City of Newburgh’s popular Police Chief
Dan Cameron has been forced to step
down after the Newburgh Civil Service
Commission ruled he cannot continue in
his position as acting police chief.
“To that end, and after exhausting all
known options,
Daniel Cameron
must be removed
from the position
of
provisional
police chief on
Oct. 15, 2016,”
the commission
wrote in letter,
penned the day
before to City

Ciaravino.
The reason? The commission points to
New York Civil Service Law.
