Pipe discharges raw sewage into Hudson River

An outfall pipe was discharging raw,
undiluted sewage into the Hudson River
and had been for decades. That was the
gist of a public advisory issued by the City
of Newburgh last week.
And, according to city officials, had it
not been discovered by contractors, there
is no telling how long it would have continued to do so. Emergency repairs and a
new portion of sewer main diverting the
dry-weather discharge to the city sewer
plant were completed by contractors a
few days following the announcement.
