Hannah Brooks, The Wherehouse to be
honored by Downing Park committee

Downing
Park
Planning
Committee has announced it will honor
Dr. Hannah Brooks and The Wherehouse
owners Michele Basch and Dan Brown
at an upcoming Downing Park annual
fundraising event. The city residents
are being recognized for years of
contributions to culture and economic
development in the City of Newburgh.
The 1920s-themed gala event will be
on Saturday, July 14. The gala takes
place at the newly-opened Shelter House
Café, located next to the Polly Pond at
Downing Park. “Our goal was to make
the park a destination once again,” said
committee member Stephen Sinnott on
the café opening and other attractions to
be unveiled at the park.
Hannah Brooks
Brooks is a breast-cancer surgeon
affiliated with Orange Regional Medical
Center and St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.
A native of Queens, she moved to the
Washington Heights neighborhood in
2005.
According to the committee, Brooks
“expanded and enhanced clinical and
community services” at both hospitals.
