Over the past several years the State of Minnesota has stepped-up tax audits as the Department of Revenue has determined that for each dollar spent on enforcement of tax collections, especially sales / use taxes, they can recover several dollars of taxes along with significant penalties and interest.
Mid-County Coop sells an array of products to the agricultural market, that when used in the direct production of an agricultural crop or product that is intended for sale, are tax exempt.
We will be updating our files over the next couple of months to maintain our compliance with the tax exempt rules. We will be sending out a tax exemption certificate which will need to be completed and returned to continue purchasing products on a tax exempt basis. We are required to charge sales tax if we do not have a completed ST-3 Certificate of Exemption on file. We have posted several Minnesota Department of
Julie’ s Favorite Christmas Recipes
Caramels 1 c. whipping cream 1 ⁄ 2 c. milk 1 ⁄ 2 c. white sugar 1 ⁄ 2 c. brown sugar 3 ⁄ 4 c. white
Julie corn syrup Dash of salt 1 ⁄ 2 tsp. vanilla 2 Tbls. butter
Mix the whipping cream and milk together. Then mix 3 ⁄ 4 of the cream and milk mixture with the white sugar, brown sugar, white corn syrup and salt in a pan.

Fuel Taxes
“ Farm Gas” – We supply gas for farm purposes which does not have Minnesota fuel tax included in the price. This product is tax exempt if it is used exclusively for production or processing of an agricultural product for sale.
“ Off-road Dyed Diesel” – This type of product is exempt only if used in the direct production or processing of agricultural products, all other“ off-road dyed diesel” is subject to Minnesota sales / use
Stir well and then boil to 234 degrees F. Then stir in the remaining 1 ⁄ 4 of the cream and milk mixture very slowly and keep it boiling until 244 degrees F.
Remove the pan from heat, add butter and vanilla. Pour into a 9x9 greased pan. Cool at room temperature. Cut and wrap in saran wrap.
My husband loves caramels so I make these every year and wrap some up as a special gift for him. If he catches me making them before I can hide them, he’ ll eat them right out of the pan, but I don’ t mind because wrapping them is the hardest part!
Mix shortening, egg, sugar and molasses. Sift together all dry ingredients. Stir into molasses mixture. Chill dough 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll balls into sugar. Place 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake 10 minutes. Cool slightly on cookie sheet, then remove to wire racks. Cool completely. Makes 4 dozen cookies.

In the event that either“ farm gas” or“ off-road dyed diesel” are purchased for allowed purposes but used in total or part for purposes not directly related to the production or processing of an agricultural product for sale, you are responsible for paying“ use tax” on the quantity used for nonagricultural purposes to the Department of Revenue( i. e.: lawn mowing, chain saws, ATVs, snowmobiles, outboard motors, on-road vehicles, etc.).
LP / Propane is tax exempt if used for residential heating and there are agricultural uses that are also tax exempt, but heating for a shop or garage is taxable. It is your responsibility to determine if any of your LP / propane usage is taxable. You would need to report and pay any“ use tax” directly to the Minnesota Department of Revenue. Entertainment by Tina & Lena will start once the meeting concludes.
Mid-County Coop will conduct their 77th Annual Meeting on Friday, Nov. 30th, 2012 at the Willkommen Memorial Park Pavilion in Norwood Young America, MN. The address of the building is 21 Main Street East, Norwood Young America, MN.
Events for the day will start at 12 Noon with a meal, the meeting will follow at 1:00 p. m. The meeting will consist of reporting on the operations and happenings at your coop. Elections will take place at the meeting for two board member positions. At the conclusion of the meeting, Tina & Lena will offer a fun entertainment program.
