ENERGY Mid-County premium winter fuels In my article last spring, I discussed what we learned from being tested by one of the coldest winters in years. Here are some highlights worth repeating with winter fast approaching: Quay Zander Energy Manager (952) 466-3727 [email protected] If you have some fuel in your tank or vehicle, chances are it is B20. If we deliver B5 to a tank that is half full, now you have B10. Make an eff ort to run your tanks down as low as you can and then fi ll with B5. • Fill your tanks at the end of the day, a full tank does not allow as much moisture to condensate in the tank. • Make sure you fi ll with a true “Winter Diesel.” Our bulk deliveries during the coldest of winter is a blend of 60% #2, and a 40% #1 with a special winter additive (see a description of our Mid-County Premium Winter Fuels adjacent to this article). • Change your fi lters at the end of the fall season and before winter begins. Water in the fi lter will freeze at the most inopportune time. We can guide you what micron level your fi lters should be. • Also make sure that your tanks are sealed at the top. Pipe compound can dry out over time and allow water into the tank. • Make sure you are not getting water from the eave of a building fl owing on top of your tank. • Please make sure there is a safe and shoveled path to your tank. Fresh snow cover over debris can cause injury to our drivers. MID-COUNTY PREMIUM WINTER FUELS Our Mid-County Premium Winter Fuels are specifi cally formulated for use in all types of diesel including Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) and biodiesel blends. This additive contains less than 15 ppm sulfur, meeting the EPA requirements for use with ULSD. Our combination of WASA, Cold Flow Improvers and De-icer added to our premium fuel additive package will provide cold weather protection without sacrifi cing fuel economy. De-Icer • Prevents water in fuel from forming ice crystals which leads to plugged fuel fi lters. • Is glycol based, performs the same as jet fuel de-icer and contains no alcohol. Detergency • Reduces or delays thermal oxidation, the leading cause of black fi lters which can lead to fi lter plugging. • Provides the detergency needed to achieve a “clean up” rating in the DW10 Standard Injector Coking Test. • Keeps injectors clean and maintains proper fuel spray pattern to avoid incomplete combustion. Stability • Reduces or delays thermal oxidation, the leading cause of black fi lters which can lead to fi lter plugging. • Provides the detergency needed to achieve a “clean up” rating in the DW10 Standard Injector Coking Test. • Keeps injectors clean and maintains proper fuel spray pattern to avoid incomplete combustion. Emissions • Reduces black smoke by up to 93%, decreases NOx, HC, CO, and PM. Corrosion/Rust Inhibition • Prolongs fuel system life by preventing corrosion and rust of fuel injectors and fuel tanks. Lubricity • Exceeds lubricity standard in ASTM D975 and EMA premium diesel requirement. Mid-County would like to congratulate Dale Schmitz on 30 years of service! WASA-Wax Anti-Settling Agent • Wax modifi er inhibits the attachment of wax molecules to each other preventing the formation of larger wax compounds that can plug fuel fi lters. • WASA helps keep the wax crystals small and suspended so that they fl ow through fuel system rather than plugging fi lters. Cold Flow Improvers • Improve operability of fuel to 20 degrees below the cloud point. • Equal to or better than using 30% No. 1 diesel – save money without sacrifi cing fuel economy.
