Having a filter on your storage tank can save you a lot of headaches. Whether it is for gasoline, diesel fuel, or heating fuel oil, a filter before or after the pump will help to protect that piece of equipment.
Fuel filters capture the unwanted contaminants found in the fuel or gas. Water is one kind of contaminant and is the most common concern. Moisture can come from the heating and cooling of the storage tank, or cold or warm fuel entering a warm or cold tank. It can also come

Filter Your Storage Tank from a loose or leaking fitting on top of the tank. A water collecting filter will help to prevent the water from entering the equipment, along with using a good quality premium fuel such as Cenex Fieldmaster or Roadmaster which contain water dispersers to also aid in this prevention.

Along with moisture comes rust from the tank. As most tanks are steel, moisture gathers on the tank and rust begins to form. Keeping your tanks as full as allowed will help to reduce this moisture and rust from forming. Now, this does not mean it will not occur; it is just one practice for prevention of moisture and rust. Most tanks that are out there will have some rust or sediment on the bottoms and it is not uncommon.
Fuel filters designed for specific applications will remove these contaminants before they cause fuel damage. In no case should a less
efficient filter be substituted to fix a perceived problem. Plugged filters will develop as the filter works to remove unwanted containments. Filter manufacturers design fuel filters to provide the level of filtration protection needed or required. Substitution of a less efficient filter may prolong a filter’ s life before plugging occurs, but it will allow contaminants to pass downstream, which will eventually impact the life of other, more expensive fuel system components. Clean, premium fuel such as Cenex Fieldmaster and Roadmaster is essential for efficient, optimum engine performance. Don’ t wreck a good thing by not having a filter at your storage tank.
