Since Winter’s first day as the new service manager Sep- tember 2, he has enjoyed talking with customers, helping technicians, and selling car, truck and tractor tires. “There are a lot of different things involved,” Winter said. “I’m the go-between for the mechanics and customers.” Winter is no stranger to the auto indus- try. “I was one of those kids who tore everything apart to see how it worked,” he said. As a 16-year-old Glencoe High School student, Winter took a regional vo-tech class that solidified his interest in mechanics. He began working at Glencoe Oil after school, pumping gas for customers. After high school, Winter attended Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis. He then did cash crop farming with his in-laws while working at Glencoe Oil. After 15 years in agriculture, Winter John Winter Service Manager (952) 466-3710 [email protected] decided to quit farming and devote his full attention to the automotive industry. He worked at Valley Chevrolet in Waconia as a technician for five years before switching to the company’s Hutchinson location. Winter then accepted a position as Val- ley Chevrolet’s service manager because he enjoys having contact with the public. ”I enjoy being able to talk with people one on one,” Winter said. “That’s probably the biggest plus.” As Mid-County’s service manager, Win- ter is happy that he can work with the agri- cultural aspect of the industry as well. “I’m getting back to my roots,” he said. In his free time, Winter enjoys spending time with his wife, son, daughter and grand- daughter. His wife, a “huge Vikings fan,” has been employed at 3M in Hutchinson for 33 years. Winter’s son works in the concrete industry, and his daughter is a customer service representative. Although Winter has lived in Glencoe his whole life, he has contacts from places like Europe, Russia and South America through his hobby as an amateur radio ham. He has even talked with astronauts in space shuttles. Part of being a radio ham also includes doing Skywarn for the National Weather Service. “When the weather starts looking rough, they’ll call us to go to a specific road to check it out,” he said.
