Twelve years ago, the City embarked into new territory and created an event called Jazz In The Gardens (JITG). Planned to be a community event to celebrate music, the event has grown from a community event into a national sensation. Artists such as Usher, Fantasia, Monica, LL Cool J, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Erykah Badu have graced the Jazz In the Gardens stage. As the City grows and evolves, Jazz In The Gardens continues to grow and evolve as well. This year, Jazz In The Gardens is branching out into the art world with the Knight Foundation Arts Conference which focuses on Film, Music, Art and Culture (FMAC @ JITG). FMAC is a multi-purpose event that will educate, showcase and celebrate the diversity of art forms and artists in and around South Florida. FMAC is a one and a half-day conference filled with intimate discussions with prominent figures in the art industry covering a widerange of topics to include but not limited to: Filmmakers will obtain insight into developing ideas, making films and getting them seen Musicians will be inspired by industry professionals who understand their music and how to connect them with their audience Artists will obtain insight on how to monetize their art and maximize their reach Leaders will explore how art can be used as a catalyst for social change and economic development Music, Film and Art lovers will benefit from art exhibits, art installations, interactive art experiences, performance art stations and Q&A sessions. 11 Other aspects of the conference include: FINALS OF THE NATIONAL POETRY CONTEST COMPETITION A JURIED COMPETITION FOR MUSICIANS A SHOWCASE OF LOCALLY PRODUCED FILMS The National Poetry Contest, while a part of FMAC @ JITG, is an exciting addition to the overall event. Poets/spoken word artists aged 18 and over are encouraged to enter the contest for a chance to participate in the final round of competition during FMAC on March 16, 2017.
