The City of Miami Gardens is truly a city of
progress and evolution. Twelve years ago,
the City embarked into new territory and
created an event called Jazz In The Gardens
(JITG). Planned to be a community event to
celebrate music, the event has grown from a
community event into a national sensation.
Artists such as Usher, Fantasia,
Monica, LL Cool J, Earth, Wind and
Fire, and Erykah Badu have graced
the Jazz In the Gardens stage.
As the City grows and evolves, Jazz In The
Gardens continues to grow and evolve
as well. This year, Jazz In The Gardens is
branching out into the art world with the
Knight Foundation Arts Conference which
focuses on Film, Music, Art and Culture (FMAC
@ JITG). FMAC is a multi-purpose event
that will educate, showcase and celebrate
the diversity of art forms and artists in and
around South Florida.
FMAC is a one and a half-day conference filled
with intimate discussions with prominent
figures in the art industry covering a widerange of topics to include but not limited to:
Filmmakers will obtain insight into
developing ideas, making films and
getting them seen
Musicians will be inspired by industry
professionals who understand their
music and how to connect them with
their audience
Artists will obtain insight on how to
monetize their art and maximize their
reach
Leaders will explore how art can be
used as a catalyst for social change and
economic development
Music, Film and Art lovers will benefit
from art exhibits, art installations,
interactive art experiences, performance
art stations and Q&A sessions.

Other aspects of the conference
include:
FINALS OF THE NATIONAL
POETRY CONTEST
COMPETITION
A JURIED COMPETITION
FOR MUSICIANS
A SHOWCASE OF LOCALLY
PRODUCED FILMS
The National Poetry Contest, while a part of
FMAC @ JITG, is an exciting addition to the
overall event. Poets/spoken word artists
aged 18 and over are encouraged to enter
the contest for a chance to participate in the
final round of competition during FMAC on
March 16, 2017. The theme of the contest
is: A Conscious Society - Are You Conscious?
#StayWokeJITG. For details, visit www.
