One Big Washout

by Rob McCommons

The fifth and final match of the day saw the County Clare “Snarling” Cats getting worked-up over the relentless assault of the Brocach Bandits. For Clare, this was a chance to fine tune the lineout, make some adjustments based on experience and recover from their narrow 6-point loss to Burke’s during Game 1. For Brocach, this was the chance for the newly formed squad to play together for the first time.

But the Brocach team that took to the pitch did not look like a new team. This team was intent on making itself known. From the outset it was apparent the combined skills of Brocach’s seasoned veterans and new-to-the-pitch rookies made for fast learners. From the outset, it was apparent Bandits want Smokey like Cat wants Milk.

Brocach’s tenacity and endurance dominated the opening of the game. Bandit Mike Stuht’s quick midfield maneuvering sent the sliotar deep into Clare’s back line several times. Bandits Liam Raasch, Tony Gilbert and Steve Pruzina provided go-to support for Stuht’s attacks. As a result the Bandits moved onto the scoreboard early with points and appeared positioned to remain there.
