On the opposite end of the field, Slainte Pat Burke started his season out in fine fashion slinging the sliotar into the back of the net for the first of what would end up as a hat trick for the day. But, his crusade forward was only possible due to his remarkable teammates. The first half ended with the Rebels somewhat stunned by the Slainte assault ending the quarter 3-7 (16) Slims to 2-0 (6) Trinity.
The second half saw the Rebels perplexed by the Slim McGinn’s uncanny play. The teamwork the Slaintes displayed is not normally seen until the end-of-season or play-offs. Not willing to give up, Rebel’s Justin “Pinball” McCauley, Aislinn “The Beast” Leonard and Nick Neuman beat up Slainte players and disrupted play in the midfield helping their teammates match points that quarter against the Slaintes. But, while the Rebels were able to go point-for-point against Slims in the third, Pat Burke and crew increased their side’s lead with an additional goal, thus increasing the lead to 4-9 (21) to 2-2 (8).
The final quarter began with the Rebels on their heels. The tough, physical play from both sides, along with the midday heat seemed to be taking its toll on the green machine. As happens, exhaustion led to sloppy play which Slim McGinn’s was able to turn to their advantage slinging in another pair of goals and a few more points. The final whistle blew signalling the victorious end of the match for Slim McGinn’s with a devastating final score of 6-13 (31) to 2-3 (9).
