though the majority of these invited

November 28 – 30 – Adelaide Rally
Following the success of our stages at
Mallala in the 2017 Adelaide Rally, the
MG Car Club has been asked to help
out with the Adelaide Rally again in
2018 running a number of stages at The
Bend.
On Saturday the Sporting Car Club
hosted a Hillclimb at the picturesque
Collingrove Hillclimb near Angaston with
MGCCSA providing the Clerk of Course
and scrutineers. A field of fifty competi-
tors included MGs ranging from Pre War
to ZS sedans. Competition was fierce
across all classes with the fastest MG
taken out by Bob Schapel in the MG TC
in a time of 36.19 seconds, almost a full
second clear of Laurie Houghton in sec-
ond place.
More detail will come to hand over the
next few months but, if you’re interested,
mark Wednesday 28 November in your
diary as a day to come and help out
while watching some top action and
great cars.
MG Club Challenge 2018 –
South Australia
Wes and Chris Bray had a very disap-
pointing start to the weekend when the
1100 heater tap failed less than 20km
from home so Wes’s competition didn’t
get to the start.

T
he Queen’s Birthday weekend has
traditionally been the timing for the
interstate Club Challenge between SA
and Victoria, alternating between Mel-
bourne and Adelaide.
Running two cars on track meant that a
full run through the field took approxi-
mately thirty minutes so there was not
much time to fix any issues or relax.
Before lunch competitors had completed
five runs up the hill. A further four runs
were done in the afternoon for those
who wanted them.
The 2018 Club Challenge was held in
SA on the weekend of June 9 th and 10 th
with a Hillclimb at Collingrove on the
Saturday and a Super Sprint at The
Bend on the Sunday. The MG Car Club
of SA was the first club to run a multi
club event at The Bend since the track
was opened in April 2018.
Interstate and local competitors began
to gather in Murray Bridge on the Friday
night in anticipation of a weekend of
competition and fun.
A number of competitors had minor
spins as they tested the limits of the
track, and their knowledge of it. Com-
ments were made about the technical
nature of the track but all enjoyed it and
recognized it takes some time to get in
the perfect lap. No vehicles were
harmed or damaged in the hillclimb and
all vehicles returned home intact.
Those staying in Murray Bridge and
some locals gathered at a local restau-
rant for dinner and to compare excuses/
times prior to the journey to The Bend in
the morning.
The interstate competitor force con-
sisted of eleven from MG Car Club of
Victoria, seven from MGCC Geelong
and two from MGCC NSW up against
twenty one from SA. A number of com-
petitors from other local clubs, generally
MSCA clubs, were invited to make up
