SANDOWN HISTORIC RACE
MEETING
Adrian Akhurst was seen at the VHRR
Historic Sandown Race meeting over
the 10/11/12 Nov. at the wheel of this
beautiful Lola T 332C Formula 5000.
Owned by his son Cameron, the car was
imported from the USA in December last
year completely in pieces, a 10 month
restoration took place to what we see
here.
The car has an impressive racing history
including being driven by Alan Jones
before he became a Formula 1 Cham-
pion
Regrettably as the owner, Cameron at
over 6 feet tall cannot fit into the driving
“seat” and I gather to modify the car to
accommodate Cameron would effect the
provenance of the car.
After some mechanical issues that saw
Adrian at the back of the field on Sunday
he drove through the pack to finish 5th
with a fastest lap of 1:16. being constructed in Australia at the mo-
ment known as Formula Thunder 5000
that the manufacturers maintain will rep-
licate the sounds and performance of
the original F5000 we see here.
These are amazing car to see and hear
at top speed on the racing circuit. Also competing were Rodney Gibb MGF
and Pat Mullins Formula Ford
