MG Car Club of South Australia
Being resilient the Wagga MG CC
redirected us all to a nearby carpark
which was well above the flood level
where all the cars were organised into
the groups for the traditional judging,
there were some who did wash and
polish but from my point of view I
knew that we had a fair drive ahead of
us so this would have been somewhat
of a waste of time.
After our breakfast there is a period of
time where we wait for the judges to
make their decision on the dozen or
so classes and during this time I was
fortunate enough to have a talk with
Graeme Smith who owns a lovely two
tone TD, Graeme mentioned to me
that he was instrumental in starting
the GOF 21 years ago. His contrasting dark blue over the light blue TD, I
thought was stunning, but the Cream
TD of John & Lesley Gibson from
Sydney was ever better.
At about 10.00 am Jan & I headed out
of Wagga on our way back to South
Australia. Driving along towards Narrandera
we
skirted around
water over the
road in lots of
places,
past
paddocks which
had huge sections of low lying land & were
completely under water, it will
be many days
before this disappears I am
sure. We made
it to Ouyen in
Victoria
that
night
and
stopped at the
Hilltop Motel, very nice, and had a
pub tea at the classic old Ouyen Hotel
before a well earned sleep.
The next morning, Monday saw us
driving the final section back home in
Strathalbyn and it was fine until we
got to Lameroo when a new rain front
met us, this continued all the way and
was a repeat of what we had experienced in Wagga, lots of water over
the road and as we got closer to
home the rain got more severe, this
was the start of a very damaging front
in the Adelaide hills and other Adelaide suburbs during the next night.
All in all a very successful trip under
extenuating circumstances, so thank
you to the MG Car Club Wagga
Wagga, we will return next year for
sure!
