LEADER SPEAK

Libraries in Trivandrum should be fully digitalized

Trivandrum must have more open spaces for people to unwind.‘ Gandhi Park’, located in the heart of the city and the museum premises is often crowded; this testifies that people are on the lookout for an open space to steam off their tensions and ease themselves from the hurry-burry life.
Open space is too precious an ingredient for healthy and sane urban living that it should not be sacrificed in the name of development.
Trivandrum Zoo can be relocated to another place, nearby by Neyyar dam or any other location and that
place can be converted to open space. If the zoo gets converted to open space, it will be a perfect blend of beauty and calmness where people can relax, walk, jog, play and picnic.
The city and suburbs have been acquiring such a concrete hue that greenery has vanished from Trivandrum city region. The artery of Trivandrum, the Thampanoor- Over bridge road is darkly lit after dusk.
The street lighting in the area must be improved and the roads in the region should be in the line of Kowdiyar – Vellayambalam road. The area in front of the Secretariat gates
N Balagopal
will often have beehive of activities like dharnas, hunger strikes and so on. Separate place for agitations, stirs would be a good idea. As if now agitations often happen before secretariat road, thereby causing traffic congestions.
Development of Trivandrum will be incomplete without development of its libraries. Libraries in Trivandrum should be fully digitalized and steps should be taken to preserve rare documents and many rare books.
Classification of books and the way in which the books are arranged should be made user-friendly.
