MESSAGES FROM THE MILL | Page 2

Andy Clark, Ashely Layson, and Savannah Good Interviewing Mrs. Blankenship on Dec. 3rd, 2014. Last year, Peaks Mill’s K-PREP scores jumped from the bottom 8% of all Kentucky elementary schools to the top 60%. We have the inside scoop on what we, as a school, did to make such a significant gain and what we’re going to do to get our scores even higher. When we work together, there is no doubt that we will be the school to watch in Franklin County. Last Year’s Score Last year we jumped 52 % from the 2012-2013 school year. What caused this miraculous change? This is Mrs. Blankenship’s thoughts on the scores, “We did awesome!” She was very proud of us and our scores. She believes that the because of our success was the fact that not only were we trying to focus on what needed improvement, but we were practicing the skills to be successful in all categories. Not only that, Mrs. Blankenship thought that being able to talk and/or confer with students helped with goal setting. The previous year our weakest areas were social studies and writing. We hope to improve the most on these two subjects, but we hope to continue to improve in all subjects. Game Plan This year our principal, Mrs. Blankenship, is hoping that PME teachers continue the successful things they did last year. Some strategies were: * School smarts-Mrs. Smith gives and helps teachers plan lessons preparing students for K-PREP types of questions to be taught on Fridays. * Teachers are very intentional to get to know their students’ strengths and weaknesses and try to help improve weaknesses. Mrs. Blankenship also expects students to take control of their learning. Students need to WANT to learn. She asks that parents take time to ask their students about what they learned and most importantly, send their kids to school ON TIME! After all, she loves attendance! Marvelous Motivation Mrs. Blankenship believes that she shouldn’t have to bribe you to try your best. Your motivation should be because you want to do it. You want to get a good score and do a good job. The trophies and assemblies are rewards but also a form of motivation to boost your spirits about doing well on the test.
