“As an actor and singer, my idea of child’s play uses

it; just do it! Read, play and talk every day,” he said.
A personal favorite of his? The Dr. Seuss classic,
“Green Eggs and Ham,” which he immediately
began quoting from memory.
Foxx also discussed how his strong foundation of
literacy has been passed down to his daughters.
His oldest daughter enjoys reading novels on a
tablet.
“At first I was against the technology, but
technology along with education really works
great,” he said. His youngest daughter spent time
with Foxx on movie sets from an early age, so
she is a strong reader and speaker because of her
engagement outside the home.
The biggest treat of the morning was an animated
reading of “The Little Engine That Could” by Foxx.
Young students from Austin Elementary enjoyed
the storytime session, and it was clear that Foxx
did, too. We’re grateful that Foxx took the time to
travel to Mesquite and most importantly that he
showed his support for an initiative so close to our
hearts—ReadPlayTalk.
