economic background?
Research shows that those
children coming from poverty
are exposed to about 30 million
fewer words than their peers
from wealthier families by the
time they are four years old.

Plant seeds or herbs together. Discuss the cycle of the seed and plant’s life. Talk about the water,
sunshine, dirt and the care that is needed for the plant to grow big and strong. Get your hands dirty!
Make a mud pie while you’re at it.
Make homemade play-dough. Read through the directions, step-by-step, together. Talk about the
process and why you must follow the steps in the right order. (This may also be a good time
to explain that sometimes, things considered inedible are made with edible ingredients.)
