AESTHETICS
REMEMBER IT ’ S A NEEDLE NOT A MAGIC WAND !
By Laura Spence Aesthetics
We live in a world where everyone walks around looking exactly the same , engrossed in their hand-held devices and obsessing over the new Kardashian look or how to create the perfect body . Nobody actually wants to know the person anymore , it ' s less about personality and all about how much your face resembles that of an A list star .
A few years ago only the rich and famous could be seen to be flawless with plumped lips , chiselled jaws , high cheek bones and not a wrinkle in sight but now its high street fashion and everyone is able to walk into a clinic and walk out with a celebrity glow . The problem is now that nobody actually knows who they really are they are all aspiring to be somebody else because social media dictates that this is how we should look or dress and even act .
The world of aesthetics can be daunting - Who do I go to ? What do I need ? What will I look like afterwards ?
First of all what do you want to look like ? A good practitioner will listen to you they will assess your needs and give you a treatment plan if they think that you have a realistic goal . The clues in the title I can ' t change your face instantly it has to be a process , anyone who says differently and just fills your face on the spot basically just sees you as a walking wallet and does not care about how you ' re treated .
A good practitioner should look at you holistically and offer tweakments , you are you … I am me , we can ' t be the same not even with a face full of filler and I ' ll never look like a Kardashian - I don ’ t even know how to put mascara on right !
Walking into a big fancy clinic can be off putting because some people think that all aesthetic practitioners are model pretty , full makeup , high heels with gorgeous tan but I can tell you right now most of the really good practitioners I know literally walk into work with a messy bun and the kids breakfast down their top .
We don ’ t all have 21 inch hair extensions and Louboutins on for work , it ' s for show so the look is aesthetically pleasing to entice you in and say look at me .
Asking what you need can also have a negative effect on a person ' s mental health especially if they are already low in mood and anxious about their appearance .
I always ask my clients why ? Why do you want this ? Why do you think you will look better with bigger lips etc and I listen . I will sit and listen to every word you have to say and I ' ll tell you straight too - I ' m not scared to say no and I ' m not scared to direct your attention to what really needs the work eg . like going to speak to someone about how you feel tackle inside first then come back and I ' ll happily help you with whatever you need .
We run support hubs @ Laura Spence Aesthetics because to me as a mental health nurse that ’ s just as important as anything else - beauty comes from inside I just help you feel a little brighter on the outside .
And lastly who should I go to ? Well this is the part that separates me from the majority because you should go to who you feel comfortable with , who treats you like a human being !
There ' s so much controversy about medical and non medical injections it ' s actually boring now . I agree there should be regulations for every single injector as there ' s good and bad in all aspects . As long as they are well educated in aesthetics , well trained and can spot and deal with an emergency or complication effectively and confidently , make it your choice no one else ' s .
