No budget cuts to Community Health

The more we invest in prevention , the healthier our communities become and the less we need to rely on ambulance , emergency and hospital services .
We gladly welcomed the $ 11 billion investment in Victoria ’ s healthcare system and no cuts to Community Health funding in the State Government Budget .
The importance of community-based services was acknowledged by Health Minister , Mary-Anne Thomas MP .
However the budget missed the opportunity to increase investment in local preventative care that keeps people healthy and out of hospital .
“ Access to affordable community-based health is needed to keep people out of hospital and empowered to take control of their health . While we are pleased there have not been cuts to Community Health , there is more to do .”

Now More Than Ever supporting reconciliation

National Reconciliation Week ( 27 May – 3 June ) is a time to acknowledge our shared histories , cultures and achievements , and to explore how we can contribute to achieving reconciliation .
Merri Health is strongly committed to closing the health gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and non-Indigenous people , as well as supporting reconciliation through initiatives that promote respect , equity and recognition .
This year ’ s theme , Now More than
Ever , reminds us that the important work continues in truth-telling , treaty making , understanding our history and tackling racism .
“ To ensure we have meaningful outcomes , respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples , First Nations culture and knowledge must remain central to our work .”

Community Health services support over 500,000 people each year . But there has been no funding increase in years , despite record population growth and cost-of-living pressures .
We continue to advocate for more local care and Government to put Community Health First .
