Social connection for people over 65
What do you get with spring weather , sunshine and enthusiasm for growing plants ? A group of Social Support Program ( SSP ) clients off for a day at Tesselaar ’ s Tulip Farm in the Yarra Ranges !
SSP is a friendly and fun space for people to make new friends and socialise with like-minded people based on your interests and hobbies .
The trip was one of the highlights of the year as people were able to share their passion for plants and make new friends along the way .
“ I connect with other people , and I have made new friends – that I would not have met if I didn ’ t come to these programs . The staff listen and respect me and welcome me . I also meet people my age . I get new experiences and go to new places that I have never been to – even though I have always lived in Melbourne .
It is like a holiday for me . My weekend is my Monday outing – I can talk to my family about what I have done . When I am out , I forget all about my problems .”

Walking and talking about mental health
We were delighted to step out and enjoy the sunshine at Moreland Rotary ’ s Lift the Lid Walk in October to support mental health awareness and research .
The family-friendly walk raises vital funds for mental health research , builds awareness of supports available and helps break down stigma associated with mental ill health .
Merri Health supports local community-led initiatives , and we were proud to be a bronze sponsor of the third annual walk .
