MOTION reducing knee replacements
Approximately 2.2 million people in Australia live with osteoarthritis .
MOTION is a 2-year research trial we are working on with La Trobe University and St Vincent ’ s Hospital . It aims to reduce the need for knee joint replacement surgeries and hospital burden through exercise and education .
We are collaborating with St Vincent ’ s Hospital on the RISK : Reducing Inappropriate Surgery of the Knee component of the trial .
This involves delivering a community-based assessment service , non-operative management programs , and referrals to other Merri Health services .
Some of our achievements include :
developing treatment pathways for clients attending Merri Health for the MOTION project creating new referral pathways for consumers aged 65 +
providing assessment and assistance to 30 clients
recommencing the GLA : D ® ( Good Life with osteoArthritis Denmark ) initiative through an education and exercise group in Brunswick
participating in a La Trobe research focus group
collecting clinical outcome measures for the study
supporting the recredentialing of all our current GLA : D credentialled staff , and training 6 new staff plus our exercise physiology team
