HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR IDEAS FRESH AFTER 18 ODD YEARS IN THE INDUSTRY?

I'm one of those odd people, you know the ones who are literally inspired by everything around them. In the words of Andy Warhol, "I like boring things..." Another icon, the extraordinary Grace Coddington, wrote "Always keep your eyes open. Keep watching...because whatever you see...can inspire you." I could keep rattling off inspirational quotes, but the main life lesson here is that you must be passionate about what you do..

DO YOU PREFER WORKING WITH TACTILE OBJECTS FOR MOOD BOARDS OR ARE YOU ALL ABOUT THE ONLINE EXPERIENCE?

To be honest, before I became a ‘Pinterest’ addict, tactile pieces adorned my 3D inspirational mood board. I believe it’s just a phase I’m going through, social media has taken over my mind! Interestingly the left-side of my brain is pleased because of the categorizing, hording, analytical nature of Pin boards; while the right-side of my brain is set free by the creative, passionate essence of surfing from pinner to pinner. However don’t be mistaken in thinking that I will no longer collect knickknacks, I still hoard, just ask my team!

WHAT IS YOUR ‘DESIGN MANTRA’ YOU LIVE BY TO STAY TRUE TO YOUR PERSONAL DESIGN STYLE?

“A positive attitude creates a positive life.” This is my mantra for life and for design. Whether it happens consciously or subconsciously, my life cannot be separated from my design work. My mind is always in ‘design mode’. Designing for fun can be a liberating process. When it’s your job it inevitably becomes a serious undertaking because you are looking for a creative solution to a problem or need. Talent is important but self-discipline and self-belief are crucial as well. At work it’s all about the brand image, the end use must reflect what real women need, want & love. Every new design must be better than the last.
