YOU MUST HAVE A PRETTY KILLER SWIMMERS DRAWER, WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SWIMSUIT STYLE TO WEAR?
You just can't help buying new swimmers every season! So yes I have a whole section dedicated to my swimwear! I'm lucky my hubby doesn't seem to mind. Right now I'm in love with my newest acquisition; it's a Seafolly (of-course)...'Honolua' vintage foliage print, it's a cut-out mailot, it's almost backless with multi-strap detail sides, looks like a bikini from behind...so cool.
HOW DID YOU ACHIEVE YOUR JOB AS GRAPHIC DESIGN CREATIVE DIRECTOR AT SEAFOLLY AUSTRALIA?
That's a good question, it's been a long and interesting journey. My mum was a textile weaver and my dad was a textile screen printer, so it all parallels very nicely. I've been at Seafolly for 18 years, unusual in the fashion industry I know, but not at Seafolly. Most of the wonderful people I work with have been there longer than I have, which says a great deal about the company and even more about the staff1! It sounds corny, but the truth is, I started at the bottom and worked incredibly hard to be where I am now. But no man (or woman) is an island, and of course along the way I've been fortunate enough to have more than just a little help from my family and friends.
I actually studied Fashion Design, Graphic Design & Web Design. When I started textile design it was all created by hand either on paper or on fabric, not digitally on a computer. I taught myself Adobe Photoshop 4.0 in the late 90s, then I asked our IT manager for a colour printer and scanner. I remember the excitement I felt the day I got all that 'high tech' equipment! From there I set-up my own processes and started creating artwork and rangebooks on Photoshop for all Seafolly brands. As Seafolly grew the graphics department grew, before I knew it I was heading up a talented team of 4, plus, some amazing freelancers.
