MENU W DORSET hen moving between seasons, spring into summer feels so much smoother a transition than winter into spring. Particularly this year when winter has managed to cling on by its fingertips like an action movie bad guy to a helicopter skid. It’s outstayed its welcome and we will not stop short of stamping on its icy hands. This issue then, is our attempt to bring some much- needed spring. We have the seasonal ingredients (p8) to cook with and loads of fresh ideas of where to eat and drink (p45), potentially even in the sun when it puts in a debut appearance this year. In our dine and stay feature (p21), we have selected some of the region’s best options for eating and sleeping that range from five-star treehouses to Robin Alway Editorial Director rooms above a pub. Enjoy your Menu! Contributors Nick Marshall Another issue, another tough assignment for Nick, dining and staying in Dorset. He now refuses to sleep in a bed without a chocolate under the pillow. Two Thirsty Gardeners Tom East Nick and Rich try beer and food matching and manage to get beyond their default setting of Pickled Egg Dropped in Bag of Crisps. Tom dares to take on the might of kale by suggesting spring greens are (whisper it) better. Send all hate kale to the usual address. www.menu-dorset.co.uk Alison Smith Ali takes a break from her young but tyrannical new boss to enjoy a Valentine’s meal. It’s cut short when he calls her home again, over the baby monitor.
