MALE VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ABUSE
As for sexual abuse , men can indeed be raped , not just by men but by women too . The argument that women can ’ t rape because of the physical differences between the two , shows a deep level of ignorance . Sex is not just about penetration , sex can mean different things to different people - something as simple as a kiss . Rape is not just non-consensual sex , it can be whatever the victim defines as sex i . e . non-consensual kissing or groping .
It ’ s not just the stigma of male sexual abuse that is the issue , a lot of victims begin contemplating their sexuality as a result . When having sex the body releases endorphins which manifest into physical traits i . e . ejaculation . Endorphins don ’ t know whether sex is consensual so the results will be the same regardless . It can be difficult for the victim to comprehend this knowledge as well as the trauma but is it essential that although their body may have reacted in a normal way , it ’ s just a natural response . Many male victims feel they can ’ t disclose their abuse and begin self-destructing as a way to cope . They tend to binge-drink , take drugs , or smoke excessively .
