Mend My Broken Heart 01 | Page 8

He told me he had gotten his heart broken once. It was by his ex-girlfriend of four years. They had dated all through high school, so it seemed to me that they knew each other inside out. He didn't say whether or not he loved her, but I'm sure he did after spending all that time. He told me he cheated on her multiple times. He justified his actions by saying those other girls didn't matter, that it was just sex, and in his mind, he knew he had "the coolest chick." Despite that, his heartbreak derived from his attachment. He had spent his critical years with her and naturally, he had grown attached. She left for college a couple of hours away. At first, they tried long distance. He said she'd visit for a weekend each week, but that wasn't enough for him. Each time she left, he'd be counting down until she'd visit next. A stoic person, it's hard to imagine him being heartbroken. I don't know who ended it, or how it ended, but it did. He told me that was all, said it left an impression on him. He didn't say much, unsurprisingly, since he doesn't say much anyway. Nevertheless, his account reflected his now unattached, unbothered personality.

This is a loose account of my friend's heartbreak. I had no recording device and he refused to write it down.
