One of the fastest-growing economies in South-east Asia , Myanmar has been steadily opening up to international trade and investment over the past decade . A new long-term economic development agenda , alongside ongoing liberalisation and the easing of restrictions on foreign investors – notably , within the insurance sector – and considerable growth in some manufacturing segments , is set to encourage increased foreign direct investment .
In April 2012 , the EU suspended all sanctions on Myanmar , except the arms embargo which remains in place , and the UK changed its policy of discouraging trade with Myanmar . The EU made it clear that responsible investment in Myanmar by EU companies was now welcome . The US has lifted some of its sanctions too , though some restrictions remain .
Myanmar is still developing , with vast resources and outdated infrastructure the opportunities are huge but there is also a range of obstacles . Even so , there are a large number of foreign business leaders looking to engage with the great opportunities available and there is an increasing number of companies and organisations that are succeeding .

Finance

There are no international banks in Myanmar . There are ATMs which will allow you to withdraw money in local currency by using foreign debit or credit cards with a fee ( MMK 6500.00 / - = US $ 5.00 ). Some hotels , travel agencies and restaurants accept payments by credit cards . Western Union operate for inward transfer of money via local banks .
