Getting closer to the market, there was sickening feeling of something mysterious about to happen. A few raindrops scattered weakly on the window. As I got out of the car, stinky smell attacked my nose and there was disgusting taste at the back of my throat. Fish was lying on the box with ice full in a state of torpor. They did not desire for money, power, reputation or anything else. Right next to them, the man was wiping out the cutting board with bloody towel. As walking by, I clearly investigated the nauseating smell. One woman and a man presumed to be a couple were selling Durian. Durian is well known as “the King of Fruit” in Asia because of its high concentrations of vitamins and minerals. Food critic Richard sterling explained it like this: “If I were to describe the smell of Durian, I would say it’s like the smell of pig poop and turpentine and onions mixed with socks you wear in the gym. You could smell it from a few yards away.” Also Anthony Burges said “It’s like eating vanilla custard in the bathroom.”

And its appearance was more like sea chesnut topped with tons of thorns. Even before a tiny little piece of it touched my tongue, the smell vibrated through whole my body. After having a little bite, I rinsed my mouth off. My body desperately yearned to get out of this smelly place. Just that moment, the old fashioned flag was flattering with ‘Hanukan’ printed on it. Stepping into the market ‘Hanukan’, it wasn’t as bad as the outside. Honestly, it was much better than what I’ve expected and it almost made me feel like I’m at home.

It was really cozy and for Jesus’s sake the sense for smell didn’t activate any longer. Different kinds of colorful bracelets were hung on the ceiling. It looked like there were bunch of earthworms crawling up the wall. By the time I move my eyes from colorful bracelets, something got my eyes. It wasn’t as colorful as the others and there were just few of them. A woman was making bracelets by herself and there was a little boy sitting on her knees. Although they didn’t have anything colorful or special, they looked like they were the happiest people in the entire world. They were looking each other in the loveliest eyes. I was staying there for a moment staring at them.
