Rules for using quotations from a written text
ü Use inverted commas at the beginning and end of each quotation. ‘quote’ or
“ quote”.
ü Write the quote exactly as it appears in the original text.
ü Use a variety of different quotations to avoid repetition.
ü Use the quotation so that it fits into what you are saying.
ü Keep quotations as short as possible
ü If you don’t want to use certain words in the sentence, use
an ellipsis … (Grammar rule: three dots only) to show that you
have omitted some of the words on purpose to shorten the
quote.
