MEC Chamber Choir
Goes International
The Maynooth Education Campus chamber
choir was established in September 2016. The
chamber choir consists of 29 members. Two
weeks ago, the chamber choir travelled to Malta
to take part in an International Choir Festival.
They stayed for 7 days and headed off on the 3rd
of December with staff members.
The talented choir had a jam-packed schedule
with a total of 4 performances with a Sunday
mass. The chamber choir also appeared on
Maltese TV twice during their stay and even met
Ireland's Ambassador to Malta, Patrick Duffy.
Our adventurous students also went off to
school to see what education is like in a different
country and interact with people their own age.
The group then had an opportunity to do some
sightseeing including travelling to Malta’s sister
island, Gozo.
Back home, the main choir and chamber choir
were also invited to sing at Maynooth University
Chamber Choir’s Christmas Concert in the Aula
Maxima at Maynooth University on the 13th
December. The choir put on an incredible
performance and were highly commended by
singer and songwriter Charlie McGettigan. All
proceeds went to the Make a Wish Foundation.
Finally, the school Christmas concert also took
place this week on the 19th of December in the
school sports hall. It included the choir, Trad.
Group, Chamber Choir, solo acts and Charlie
McGettigan also performed with the choir. The
tickets were €10 and all proceeds now go
towards MEC’s music department. Many thanks
for all your support and contributions .
