Kildare Futsal Champions 2019
What Is Futsal?
Congratulations to the MPP 1st year Futsal team who won the
Kildare Futsal title on the 13 th November. The team went on to
represent Kildare in the Leinster Futsal Finals in the National
Basketball Arena. The girls gave a great account of themselves
and achieved two wins, two losses and a draw. It was a great
team effort, shown by the team having seven different goal
scorers over the five games. The future is bright!
Noreia Stifter, Niamh Farrell, Saoirse Mullen, Aoibhe Garvey, Ciara McHale,
Amber O'Grady, Hannah Merrick, Aoife Murnane, Méabh McDonagh,
Aoibhinn O'Meara, Sorcha Whelan.
Futsal is essentially football
with a twist (and a lot less
number of rules), it's a five a
side game which includes one
goalkeeper for each side,
with a much smaller pitch,
mostly played indoor courts
and a (slightly) different ball.
With the small nature of the
pitch, the players playing in
the league need to have much
more close control and better
technique on the ball. When
the ball goes over the end
line, the keeper throws the
ball out instead of kicking it
and when the ball goes out
over the sideline, the players
kick the ball back in instead
of throwing it. Rolling
substitutions are allowed
during the game, with 12
players maximum from each
side allowed to play for a
single game. And no, there is
no offside rule!
1st Year Boys
Futsal Team
On Wednesday 6th of November, MPPS
and MCC first years competed in the
Kildare futsal competition that took
place in Kilcullen community centre.
Both teams acquitted themselves well
on the day.
MPPS went on to win the competition
and competed in the Leinsters on the
13th of November in the National
Basketball Arena in Tallaght.
The MPPS boys acquitted themselves
well where they won two games, drew
one and lost two games. They finished
second in their group and narrowly
missed on qualifying for the final.
