While the sculptors and artists got busy in front of the Alan Paton Hall this morning, the rest of the school watched and applauded teams of four from each test their creativity and quick thinking with acting skits – each team had to improvise around topics given to them as they took to the stage. With no time to plan or prepare, it was those boys who could think on their feet and add in spontaneous humour that won the day. The first ―test‖ involved interview type scenarios and the second instant changes in the story line as each boy in a team, on joining the scene, had to nominate a new scene and immediately start acting that scene – a tough ask indeed, but the boys displayed great imagination and enthusiasm! The drawing and sculpting was judged during the midmorning break and drew many admiring remarks from the postgraduate art students from UKZN who undertook the reviews and allocations of points. Dave Rogers Director of Business Development / Marketing Co Curricular Summary Term 1 Keeping true to its policy of mass participation and developing the all-rounder, Maritzburg College once again showed remarkable depth in its co-curricular programme for term 1. Cricket proved most popular with no fewer than 30 teams donning whites every Saturday. Basketball (15 teams) and Water polo (9 teams) also proved popular, with the 1st team of the former proving to be the stand out team this term with dominant domestic performances as well as returning home with the silverware from the prestigious St Johns International basketball Tournament in Johannesburg! Our canoeists maintained the station as a KZN and even national leader in this code with outstanding achievements in the many different facets of this sport.
